“Black River Ranch, through the foresight and leadership of Edwin S. George, began life as an intended self-sustaining Sportsman’s Reserve. ‘The Farm’ meadow is all that’s left of the self-sustaining component.

The Ranch remains one of the few private land tracts of size left in Northern Lower Michigan, retaining the charm and privacy of a bygone time. Its mission might be stated from that simple fact:

“The Mission of the Club shall be to preserve, maintain and carry forward the image and utility of Black River Ranch as an exclusive, unsullied northern retreat for the benefit of its current and future members, and as a practicing partner in Michigan’s commitment to natural conservation.” -Member Bowen Broock

Northern Michigan Private Hunting and Fishing Club Commitment to the core values of carefully managed growth and preservation by both owner and membership continues through programs of biological study, river restoration, habitat, wildlife management, and the deep seated affection and respect shared by those who are fortunate enough to enjoy it’s bounty.
